A blog about making art and other things using cloth, paper, paint, colour, stitch, and all sorts of exciting techniques, some of which I'm sure I still have to discover! I hope that the joy all this gives me is visible in what you can see here.

Brisons Veor Part 1

I have just returned from a glorious week in Cape Cornwall with two artist friends, staying in the cottage called Brison's Veor. It is an artists retreat, overlooking the Brisons, (also fondly known to the locals as 'Charles De Gaulle in his bath), Priests Cove, and where the beautiful Atlantic ocean meets the English Channel.

Brisons Veor is the cottage furthest left in the photo above, and as you can see is right above the cliffs with that wonderful sea view.

I adopted the work station above, with that incredible view through the window. When we opened the windows, which we did most days, we could also hear the waves pounding on the beach below,

So much inspiration around us, including the bountiful mix of spring and summer wild flowers and grasses, which in turn attracted moths,  butterflies and bees.

These resulted in the piece of work you see below, using acrylic paint on cloth, and both hand and machine stitch.

We all worked on our ongoing challenge to create 7 containers during the week. I had previously made the above textile boat shaped containers, and then tried to either find or make something to fit into each one. These will have to wait until part 2 or part 3, there is too much to talk about in just one post.

The geology and rocks in this area are also so varied, with amazing colour and patterns. I tried to capture some of this in the sketch above.

I also attempted to capture some of the amazing colour and power of the sea, which seemed to change daily. Not an easy task by any means!

On one of the days, the wave movement and ripples on the surface seemed to be travelling in all different directions!

We certainly had more than enough to fill our sketchbooks with, but for now I will leave you with an image of one of the wonderful sunsets we experienced.
